PRIVATE LABEL MAKEUP PROJECT PLANNING

Prepare Your Makeup Product for Manufacturer Review

Use this guide when you have a makeup product idea and need to turn it into a workable manufacturing brief. Confirm the product result, quantity, formula, packaging, target market and sampling route before requesting a quotation.

  • Define product specifications
  • Compare manufacturing routes
  • Prepare for sampling and quotation

FROM A PRODUCT IDEA TO A WORKABLE BRIEF

Turn a makeup idea into information a manufacturer can review

A useful inquiry goes beyond the product category. Whether the project is lip liner, liquid lipstick, blush or mascara, quantity, customization level and target market affect the available route. The six decisions below form a practical production brief.

  1. 01

    Product

What format, finish and customer result do you want?

  2. 02

    Quantity

How many units and shades can the first launch realistically carry?

  3. 03

    Formula

Can a mature formula meet the brief, or must it be adjusted?

  4. 04

    Packaging

Will existing packaging with branding work, or must the component change?

  5. 05

    Market

Where will it be sold, and what labels or documents must be prepared?

  6. 06

    Quotation

Which approved specifications, samples, budget and timing should the price cover?

Makeup products, shade swatches and a product brief prepared for brand planning

1 · DEFINE THE PRODUCT BRIEF

Describe the product result—not only the category

“Lip gloss” is a category. “A comfortable high-shine nude gloss for daily wear in a warm climate” gives the formula, shade and packaging discussion a direction. The clearer the intended customer result, the more relevant the product, sample and packaging recommendations can be.

A focused product or connected routine is usually easier to sample, stock and quote than unrelated products. Common project categories include lip liner, lip glaze, liquid lipstick, lipstick, lip oil, blush, highlighter and mascara.

A production brief should answer:

  • Who is expected to buy the product?
  • What format, finish, shade story and result should it deliver?
  • What reference product or visual best communicates the idea?
  • What retail price and brand position are you planning?
  • How many products and shades belong in the project?

Connected range example: lip liner + liquid lipstick + lip gloss. Each remains a separate product for MOQ and quotation.

2 · CHOOSE THE MANUFACTURING ROUTE

Match the route to what must be changed

MOQ is not one number for an entire makeup line. It is connected to the product, formula batch, selected component and the specific changes requested.

WHITE LABEL · 100–200 PIECES

Test selected ready products

For supported products when the order is below the normal private label production quantity.

  • Existing formula, color and packaging
  • Limited branding changes
  • Not a custom formula or packaging project

PRIVATE LABEL · FROM 500 PIECES

Mature formula + existing packaging

For many products, 500 units means one product in one packaging style. Existing colors may commonly be split from 50–100 pieces per shade, depending on the product.

  • Logo and custom outer box available
  • Different products cannot combine to reach 500
  • A practical route for many first launches

CUSTOM DEVELOPMENT

Change formula or packaging

For brands that require formula adjustment, new colors, component color, surface treatment, new structure or private molds.

  • Formula and packaging MOQ reviewed separately
  • Packaging changes commonly move toward 10,000 pieces
  • Sampling, design and mold costs may apply

3 · FORMULA AND PACKAGING

Decide what customers will experience—and what they will see

Formula and packaging need to be considered together, but they are different decisions. A familiar component can still look like your brand; a custom-looking component does not automatically create a differentiated product.

Formula questions

Confirm format, texture, finish, color payoff, wear, skin feel, shade direction and any ingredient request. Start by testing mature formulas when they can meet the intended result. Custom development is useful when an important performance or product direction cannot be achieved from available options.

Packaging questions

Choose the component first, then confirm logo method, artwork, outer box and required decoration. Existing packaging with logo has a different MOQ from changing the component color or surface finish. New structures and private molds require technical review and higher investment.

4 · SAMPLE BEFORE PRODUCTION

The sample is where an idea becomes a physical product

Individual mature-formula samples or a sample kit can be selected according to the products you are considering. If the formula or packaging must be developed, the sampling requirement is quoted from the brief.

Custom formula sampling commonly costs US$100–500 and takes about 2–4 weeks, based on difficulty and number of products. Two feedback adjustments are included. Existing-mold packaging samples with custom color or surface treatment commonly cost US$200–350 per component and take about 20–30 working days.

What to check on a sample

  • Formula texture, shade, finish and application
  • Whether the component suits the formula and intended use
  • Logo size, placement and printing method
  • Outer-box information and artwork layout
  • What must be adjusted before approval

5 · TARGET MARKET AND DOCUMENTS

Tell us where the product will be sold

The destination market affects the ingredient review, label information and documents needed. Confirm it before artwork is finalized.

WHAT SINDEBELLA CAN SUPPORT

6 · QUOTATION AND PRODUCTION

Once the product and market are clear, the project can move forward

  1. 1

    Send the product brief

Include product, shades, quantity per product, formula result, packaging direction, market, budget and launch period.

  2. 2

    Review suitable options

Within 1–2 working days, we normally reply by email with relevant products, MOQ direction, samples or packaging options, initial price information where possible and questions still missing. WhatsApp follow-up comes next.

  3. 3

    Test and approve samples

Compare the physical product with the brief and provide clear feedback before final formula, shade and packaging approval.

  4. 4

    Confirm artwork and quotation

Design layout is included after an order is placed. Pre-order design work costs about US$50–200 per design.

  5. 5

    Confirm market information

Review ingredient, label and available document requirements based on the product and destination market.

  6. 6

    Arrange production

Private label production is commonly planned around 25 working days. Custom or larger projects may take about 25–45 working days; final timing depends on quantity, packaging and approved specifications.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Questions buyers usually ask before sending a project

Can I request a product review without a logo, website or registered company?

Yes. To receive a useful reply, prepare the product you want to make, estimated quantity, target market, working budget and launch period.

Can I fully customize a makeup product with 100–200 pieces?

For supported products, 100–200 pieces usually follows a White Label route using an existing formula, available colors and existing packaging with limited branding. Formula or component customization requires a different MOQ and technical project review.

Can the private label quantity be split across products or shades?

Different products or packaging styles cannot be combined to reach one product minimum. For many mature-formula products, available shades may be split from 50–100 pieces per color within the same product and packaging, depending on the item.

Do I need to create my own formula?

No. A mature formula is often the fastest way to test quality and market response. Custom formulation is considered when the available formula cannot meet an important shade, texture, ingredient or performance requirement.

What documents can SindeBella provide?

After the product and order are confirmed, available support may include MSDS, batch COA, ingredient or formula information, product specifications and applicable factory information. Third-party testing or market-registration support is reviewed and charged separately when required.

How long do samples and production take?

Custom formula samples commonly take 2–4 weeks. Existing-mold packaging samples with custom color or surface treatment commonly take 20–30 working days. Production is generally planned around 25–45 working days, depending on quantity, packaging and approved specifications.

What should I send to receive a useful quotation?

Send the product category, formula result, shades, quantity per product, packaging direction, target market, working budget and expected launch time. Reference products or visual examples also help the team understand the intended result.
